It is with great sadness that we advise that Donal (Rob) Wright passed away after a short and spirited battle with cancer. With the assistance of MAID, he chose to leave this life with peace and dignity in his own unique way.
Rob was born in Montreal, Quebec, the only son of Donal Richard Wright and Diana (Cuffe), brother of Teresa Wright.
Rob is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Leta (Hignell) Wright and his children, Glory (Greg Armstrong) of Seattle and Wolfe of Ottawa as well his beloved granddaughter, Aurora.
He was a man of many talents and interests. His passions were wood working where he spent hours building furniture and renovating the many homes that they purchased over the years. He also loved to cook and create wonderful meals for his family and friends. His blindfold dinners were the best!
He had many careers over the years but his years as a flight instructor gave him his greatest joy and sense of pride. He was also a part time scuba instructor.
He loved to be active and enjoyed cycling, long walks, scuba diving in tropical locations and golf.
His family would like to thanks the many nurses and doctors at the BC Cancer Clinic and Royal Jubilee Hospital, who were amazing, and helped him during his battle. A special thanks to Dr. Aiken, Dr. Griffiths, Dr. Genge, as well as Dr. Mueller and the Palliative Care team of Victoria Hospice. The four best doctors in the world!
In lieu of flowers, a donation to BC Cancer, Victoria Hospice or the Aplastic Anemia and Myelodysplasia Association of Canada would be appreciated.
As per Rob’s request, there will be no funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Louise Alepin Dear Leta, it is with great sadness to receive news of Rob’s passing. He was a ray of fun and laughter with a great sense of respect and honour. One cannot imagine what turmoil you’ve been through, as you held his hand through this difficult transition. Your loving family and friends will be supportive in spirit and in hand whilst you adjust to a new normal. Happiness will find you again, with Rob in your heart. For now, it’s ok to just be. Breath and just take it one baby step at a time. Louise ♥️

Michae Hignell Aunt Leta,
I am so sorry for your loss. I’m so glad Renee got to meet Rob and we got to spend that time with you both in Victoria last summer!! It was a highlight on our trip! I’m sending you hugs and I hope you and the family finds peace. I know Rob has found peace now from his disease and in that I find some small comfort.
Love Michael, Renee, Molly, Owen, Bryson and Jace
Hi Leta, my dear sister. I am so glad I could be with you for two weeks, in Victoria. Time with Rob for a couple of days and time with our siblings and their spouses over Zoom, scattered as we are around the country. Time to celebrate memories, laugh and acknowledge his thanks to all of us, for being family to him! He gave it his best that evening, as he has done throughout his illness. It was a privilege for me to be present with you and Glory at his last breath. He did it his way!! And you gave him your full support. You were a very loving couple, enjoying what was common to you both, and making room for your individual differences.
You have so many wonderful friends in Victoria. I met most of them, and I am confident their close presence will help you greatly through the weeks and months ahead. You are in my heart every day, particularly so on this his day, Sept 17th, his birthday. Love you so much.
