John Hamilton, a loving husband, father, brother and joyful grandfather went to be with the Lord on June 13th, 2023. John endured an extended and brave battle with Crohn’s disease, advanced Parkinson’s disease and intestinal failure. He was born in 1952 here in beautiful Victoria, BC and passed at 71 years old.

John will be profoundly missed by his best friend and forever loving wife of over 45 years, Karen. Together they have two cherished daughters, Vanessa and Pamela, along with their spouses who he loved like son’s and two of John’s greatest joys – his grandsons. John is also survived by his sister, two brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

John will always be remembered for his kind and gentle nature. How he loved his family beyond measure, his encouraging words, his great sense of humour, his love of music, nature and gardening. John maintained a joyful and loving spirit despite his illnesses.

A celebration of life will be held later next Spring.

The family would like to thank the team at St.Paul’s Home Parenteral Nutrition program and the devoted doctors and nurses who cared for John over the years.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I just heard of Hammy’s passing yesterday at a Canada post retirement celebration. I worked with him for a number of years at Station B and will never forget the first time I heard this quiet man sing Hot Rod Lincoln. He’s was a delight to work with and am sorry to hear of his passing, my deepest condolences to his family and friends; he was a gem.

We are so sorry to hear of John’s passing. Our Thoughts, Prayers and Condolences are with all the Family and Friends. I have many memories from our Lacrosse days. I was the young one of the Macdonald’s Bread Team. John was like a Big Brother to me. I also have memories of John getting on my Bus for his Canada Post duties. Always a bit of a chat. Say hi to friends and family John.

I’m so sorry to hear of John’s passing. I worked with him for many years and he was always a delightful person to be with. Lovingly known to us as“Hammy”, he always brought joy to everyone at work. He was much loved. His rendition of hot Rod Lincoln always revved everybody up at work. My deepest condolences to Karen and the family.

To Karen, daughters and all of John’s family. We are so sorry and very sad to read about John’s passing. I have known John since we were kids, and even though we haven’t seen him very much for years, we fondly remember him as always being an extraordinarily nice, decent, sincere and kind man. So sorry for your loss. He will be missed.

I will miss my great friend John or as we used to refer to each other little John and big John. He may have been smaller in size but he was huge in so many other ways. I learned so much from John in how he quietly dealt with the issues he was dealt, and that infectious smile of his just seemed to never leave his face, and how his big heart had impact on all of us around him. His gentle spirit was a trademark that we hope to have imprinted on our lives. My loss was heavens gain and I will so very much miss him.

I so agree with all the previous messages to which I can only add that the loss of a sibling is very difficult and especially a younger one is not right. I know that it has only been due to the incredible support John received from his wonderful wife, Karen, and his two lovely daughters, that Johnny Mike made it through the previous decade. Thanks to them I have had the continued joy of him in my life up until his recent passing. The memories I have of him growing up could fill a book! Johnny Mike was my Mom and Dad’s angel and was often referred to as such in our family.

Karen, Pam & Vanessa & family – I fell so blessed that John touched our lives. He was an amazing man, with such a great sense of humor, strong will and a wonderful belief, even throughout all of his suffering days. Everyone who knew you & John are better people for your friendship, caring & sharing your beliefs. He may not be with us physically, but he is that brightest star shing down from heaven every night.
