Graham recently passed away peacefully at Mount St. Mary Hospital.  He was 84 years old.  Graham was predeceased by his beloved parents Eric, Mary and Jean Garman.  He will be missed by his brother Roger (Pat), nephew Scott (Kathy), their daughters Scotia and Siena, nephew Michael (Delma) and many cousins and friends.

Graham happily lived his entire life in the Fairfield neighbourhood of Victoria, BC.  He was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital which is on the site where Mount St. Mary’s Hospital is now located and as a young adult, he went on to work there for twenty-four years.  Graham was a member of the BC Youth Parliament, an active member in Toastmasters, a member of Fairfield United Church and a property developer.  One of Graham’s proudest accomplishments was the meticulous restoration of a large Fairfield home.  The home was later designated with a heritage status.  Graham’s attention to detail is much appreciated by the current owners.

Although dementia took a toll on Graham’s abilities, he always retained his smile, booming laugh and love of desserts.  The family is grateful to the caring staff at Mount St. Mary Hospital.  They cheerfully provided a home for him for the past six years.  Rest in peace Graham.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I met Graham in 1964, when we were both involved in the congregational life of Metropolitan United Church. After a year in Victoria, I moved back to Edmonton, where I remained for many years. On most of my visits to Victoria I would get together with Graham. This continued for many years. I remember him as a quiet, thoughtful person who cared about those around him. I also remember how he loved his community, and homes, and careful restoration. Graham and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Roger and the extended Garman family: I have very cherished memories of my interaction and friendship with Graham as we developed within the community of Fairfield United Church Sunday School and sanctuary. I can still visualize his warm smile and genuine greeting. A super-nice guy. I am sure that memories of happy times as a family will help you deal with this loss now and in the years to come.
    With sympathy,
