Betty passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 in Victoria, BC. Betsy, as
she preferred to be called was born in New Zealand. A champion swimmer, model, and youngest sister of Nora and Maureen, Betsy set
out on a grand lifetime adventure after graduating as a Registered Nurse. She met the love of her life (Gerry) in France and together they
built a loving partnership that led them on many world-wide adventures.
Mom’s compassion and care for others led her to volunteer much of her time for various charities, often canvassing door to door in Ottawa and Winnipeg winters for some of her favorite non-profits. An undaunted adventurer, mom loved gardening, golf, sailing, bicycling, bridge, tennis, quilting, and hosting wonderful gatherings. At 72, she tried out parasailing – to the great surprise of her friends and family.
She had a wonderful sense of humour and it seemed there was nothing she could not or would not forgive.
Betsy was predeceased by her husband Gerard, her son Dwight, her sisters Nora and Maureen, and her parents – Katie King and Mick Syron. She is survived by her son, grandson and his wife and three great grandchildren and her nieces Anne and Maria, and nephew Christopher.
Betsy will be dearly missed and our hearts will remember one of God’s “good ones”.
Sail on Silver Girl – we loved you.

Mary Louise Meadow Dear, dear Betsy,
I knew you for only a couple of years at Carlton House, but so enjoyed your wit, your stories, the delights of dinner conversation at table with you, John Hillman, Jo Dzioba, Dorothy Bissell, and Pierre when he joined us, along with the occasional pre-dinner request to “zip you up” prior to a special occasion, as well as bits and pieces of culinary information such as the origins of Pavlova! Sadly, Covid and your move to Sunrise interfered with the pleasure of your company, not only for me, but for the Carlton House community. The photo in your TC obit captures the radiance of your presence. Your memory will forever be a blessing to me.

Mary D Thomas Dear Pierre,
It was sad to read about Betsy’s passing. She was such a bright light , a great hostess , gardener and quilter and good friend. It was an especially memorable party to celebrate her 90th birthday when “The Queen” paid an unexpected visit and conferred a title on Betsy. I am sending my heartfelt sympathy to you and the family for your loss.

Judy Theriault Our deepest sympathy to the family, she will be missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Theriault, you have been one cool Kiwi and I miss you lots. You made wicked meals, a great cup of tea and your orchids were to be envied. Thank you for the kindness, the talks, the memories of fun, focus and food. You are one in a million and your life is one that has left an impact.
You were often in a book, a quilt or planning a 4 course meal and the highlight was talking about the world and politics.
I wish you peace and to your loved ones a great big hug. You had wonderful hugs.
Love Shakti, Mum Chanchal and of course the new cat – Gita Ellie
