Dorothy passed away in her 99th year after a brief illness.  She was born in Toronto and after the Second World War met and married (William John) Eric Simmons there in 1947.  They lived, and raised their family, in Ottawa, Toronto, North Bay and Clarkson, Ontario.  Several years after Eric’s death in 1997 Dorothy moved to Oak Bay in Victoria, B.C. for her golden years.

Dorothy loved, and was loved by, her family and she brought warmth and laughter into the lives of her many friends and acquaintances.  She leaves her children Nancy Simmons Smith and John Simmons (Vikki), grandchildren PK (Kelly) Smith, Kate Hinds (Trevor), Jane Allen (Nick), and Scott Simmons and four great grandchildren.

Dorothy’s ashes will be interred privately in Toronto. To remember her, please think a happy thought and make someone smile.

We at Monterey Seniors Centre in Oak Bay will miss her beautiful smile, her infectious sense of humour, her interesting stories and her much loved and cherished companionship. How she was able to keep up with us “younger” members of the 10 o’clock exercise group kept us in awe. We will miss her dearly.

My deepest sympathy to the Simmons Family on Dorothy’s passing. We enjoyed our adventures and outings with Dorothy and my cousin, Eileen Cooper and she can be assured that Ann, who joined the Symphony Pops Concerts to keep Dorothy’s seat warm for her, did a good job!

  • Marge Macdonald

My deepest sympathy to Dorothy’s family. She was just such a fun lady, and always had a smile for everyone. Was a pleasure knowing her. She will be missed by everyone here at Berwick House.

Hi Simmons Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Your mother was a ray of sunshine. She was my customer at Oak Bay Pharmasave. Your mother was an inspiration to me. I used to joke with her “when I grow up… I want to be just like you!”
I will really miss her and feel fortunate I became friends with Dorothy.

    Take care,
