Mom passed away at home on March 25th after celebrating a remarkable 98 years in January. She never forgot her Prairie roots in Manyberries (Alberta) despite living most of her adult life on the West Coast. Vancouver was where she met and later married her cherished Archie in 1953. The family moved to Victoria in 1959 after Dad pursued an opportunity within the Burrard Yarrows Corporation. Lois was a proud graduate of the University of Alberta where she earned her Bachelor of Home Economics in 1947. Mom stayed at home to raise and support the family but always found time for neighbours and several community organizations. Latter years were spent hosting international exchange students from around the globe, taking cruises on the world’s oceans, savouring the abundant produce from Dad’s garden, and enjoying warm weather vacations with long time friends. One of Mom’s passions was playing bridge, which she did regularly with many groups and her penny purse was always overflowing from her wins! And, of course, there was always room for visits with the Calgary and Vancouver grandchildren. She was sadly predeceased by Archie in 2009 and now is fondly remembered by sons John (Sara) and James (Carol), along with grandchildren Andrew (Shelby), Baxter, David, Cora (Peter), and Ian. The family is very grateful for the devoted care given to Mom at home by both Jennifer and Lina over the past 10 years.
A private gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations in Lois’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
