It is with great sadness that the family of Evelyn M. Arnott (nee Wells) announce her peaceful passing on Tuesday February 21, 2023 at the age of 92 years.
Evelyn was born in Ripley, Derbyshire, England on April 18, 1930 to Charles (Leonard) and Hilda Wells. She was the eldest of three children – big sister to brothers Keith (deceased) and David. She worked as the only female drafter at Butterley Steel & Engineering in Ripley. It was here that she met Ken. They were married in 1952 and emigrated to Canada shortly after.
After a few stops along the way, they landed in Victoria where they eventually built a home designed by Ken, and welcomed three children. Jacky in 1956 followed by David in 1959 and Jeffrey in 1962. With her youngest in Kindergarten, Evelyn went to work at the BC Government Teacher’s Pension Plan until her retirement in 1989.
After her retirement she spent time enjoying her many favorite pastimes: walking with the two Walking Groups she belonged to; traveling the world with Ken and or family; socializing with friends and family; reading; listening to music; and watching her beloved English TV shows.
Evelyn was known for her kindness, sweetness, and her beautiful smile.
Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by her brother David; children Jacqueline (Allan), David, and Jeffrey (Lindsay); grandchildren Candice (Paul) and Matthew (Hayley); great-grandchildren Evelyn, Malachi, Theodore, Greta, and Charles, step-grandchildren Emily (Jacob), Brendan (Rachel), and Duncan (Melissa); step-great-grandchildren Liam, Penelope, Emma, Peyton, Sommar, Kayon, Kendrick, and Madden; and her extended family in England and abroad.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Sunrise of Victoria Care Home for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Evelyn’s life may be held at a date yet to be determined.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
