Sande, partner to Bob for 56 years, mother to Greer, mother in-law to Brian Pasquill, and grandmother to Aedan & Zachary left this world with her family at her side the afternoon of December 26th, 2022.

A very serious and largely untreatable cancer of the gall bladder had spread to her liver and lymph nodes, only having received confirmation of the diagnosis a couple of weeks prior to her passing. Sadly, the pain and complication of the condition overcame her very rapidly, a terrible shock to family, friends and caregivers. Sande had been transferred from home to a hospice bed at Ayre Manor in Sooke the afternoon of December 24th with the support and guidance of her physician Dr. Tomas Vally and Sooke Hospice – the family is enormously grateful to Dr. Vally, Sooke Hospice, and the staff of Ayre Manor for their compassionate care and support during a most challenging time.

Sande was a beautiful soul, born in Montreal, and having grown up in the Eastern Townships of Quebec with her mother, Lilah M. Fruiler (father, Louis Douglas Fruitier, died circa 1947), cousins, and a treasured group of friends; this is also where she met her love, Bob, whom she married in Montreal November 12, 1966. Sande’s expression of her beautiful nature was expressed perfectly in her appreciation of art of all kinds, as well as the maintenance of a very special aesthetic in her home and tastes. She was a most amazing and lovely friend to many, always giving beyond 100% to help those she cared for. A live wire, always au courant with local and global affairs and politics, she was an avid reader and a social media savante.

Sande gave very generously of her time and attention to local arts organizations (Sooke Fine Arts, Greater Victoria Art Gallery, Victoria Horticultural Society) – her contributions are gratefully acknowledged, and her presence will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

The family graciously requests donations to Ayre Manor (Sooke Elderly Citizen’s Housing Society) or Sooke Hospice in lieu of flowers.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Sande in the Sequoia Centre, at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 2:00 pm.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Though we knew Sande had not been too well as of late we didn’t know what to think with your home looking unusually quiet as of late. We only learned of Samde’s passing on reading the Sooke News Mirror. We offer you, Bob and all your family our heartfelt sympathies. What little we knew of Sande she was a warm, kind and loving person and very dedicated to doing good in her community.

    Dear family of Sande,
It is with a very heavy heart that I wish to convey my deepest sympathy to you. I can’t believe Sande is gone. Even though Myles and I had moved away from the island 5 years ago, she was one of the people who kept in contact with me during the time we were away. She knew how to sustain a friendship. Now we just got back on the island and are ready to resume our friendships here and she is gone too soon. I will truly miss her. She was always such a gracious hostess in her lovely home and always up for any fun we might be able to conjure up. The four musketeers, Linda, Maureen, Sande and I had some happy, silly times together. We had many laughs and also many heart to heart conversations. She was loved and will be greatly missed.
