It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marjorie Helen Whitley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She passed away at the Heights at Mount View Care Home in Victoria on September 5, 2022 at the age of 92 years.
Marjorie was born on November 4, 1929 on the farm in Simpson, Saskatchewan to Forrest and Janie Semple. She attended Simpson school and obtained her Grade 12 diploma. After school she worked for a time at a bank in Calgary before returning to Simpson and marrying Bill Whitley on June 2nd, 1949. Bill and Marjorie then took over the Whitley farm. While working on the farm and raising 6 children Marjorie was active in Simpson’s St. John’s United Church and with the local CGIT (Christian Girls in Training). In 1970, Marjorie and family moved to Saskatoon and started a driving school (Whitley’s Safe Driving). In Saskatoon, Mom cared for several foster children and was active in the United Church and Circle Drive Alliance Church. Mom and Dad always loved to vacation in Maui, Hawaii and spent parts of many winters there. In 2000 they escaped the prairie winters for good and moved to Victoria, BC.
Growing up on the farm Marjorie developed a love of horses and dogs. Throughout her life she almost always had a dog. Mom also loved to draw and paint, especially horses and other animals.
Marjorie is predeceased by her husband of 71 years William Whitley, brother Bruce Semple, sister Marion Cammidge and her son Robert Boyd-Whitley. She is survived by her children Frank (Uyen), Sharon (Kelly), daughter-in-law Debbie Boyd-Whitley, Kevin (Jeananne Brehon), Brian (Heather), Suzanne (Karen Chan),16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
We are very grateful for the care Mom received at the Heights at Mount View in her last months.
