I met Edna Lake at the monthly meetings of ESU Canada, which was an organization that fostered friendship and co-operation between English speaking people. For several decades I had the privilege of knowing her, and sometimes had tea at her home in Oak Bay after driving her home from the ESU lunches, held at the Queen Victoria Inn. She was a beautiful lady, gentle and sweet in spirit. She worked for the CPR for years. She loved a soldier who did not return from the war, and never married. Her collection of china animals arranged lovingly on her entry porch was a joyful thing.
