It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Loukas “Louie” Papaloukas on January 31, 2022, just days before his 93rd birthday. From hard and humble beginnings in Desfina, Greece, he immigrated to Canada in 1957, to the northern BC town of Prince Rupert, and later moved the family to Victoria. With his loving wife Eleni “Helen” by his side, they created and lived a wonderful life together and left an enduring legacy in two countries and many hearts.
Louie, as many called him, was a hard-working, fiercely independent man – still making pizzas and his morning coffee until recently. He was quick-witted, a practical joker, kind, proud and caring. Louie was an amazing husband, father and Papou (Grandfather) and heartbroken when he lost Helen two years ago. He is survived by his children John (Marvelee), George and Aspasia and grandchildren Nicholas, Broden, Loukas, Alexander and Apostolos and extended family in Greece and numerous friends. It is comforting to think of him and Helen enjoying some wine together on a heavenly balcony. Louie will be warmly remembered and deeply missed!
A Funeral Service will be held on February 16, 2022 at 1:30pm at the Greek Orthodox Church, 4648 Elk Lake Drive, followed by a reception at the McCall Gardens Sequoia Centre, 4665 Falaise Drive, at 3:30pm.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Dimitrios Koutougos Our very heartfelt condolences from the Koutougos family. I grew up next door to the amazing Papaloukas family in Gordon Head and have many wonderful memories of Helen and Louie as a kid. Eventually I became a teen, and then a man. Our mutual connection of Greek heritage, our family’s friendship and Helen and Louie’s service in the Greek community here in Victoria gave me the honour of keeping in contact with Louie for over 4 decades. He was a great man who always had a smile and a joke for me every time we met. He will be very greatly missed. If only we could all have such a rewarding life. May his memory be eternal.
I too this day, think and quote him.
Nice man, but tough.
