With great sadness, we announce his passing at the age of 88.

Born in Fatsan, Guangdong province in China, Willie left his homeland in 1950 for Nicaragua where he opened and operated his own general store until December 1978.

Due to Nicaragua’s civil war, he immigrated to Canada with his young family in 1979 and settled in Victoria. He owned Willie’s Market on Craigflower Road for 13 years before retiring. During his retirement years, he lived a simple life. He loved being a grandfather and enjoyed gardening and traveling.

Willie is survived by Ena, his wife of 57 years, his four children: Carmen (Bill), William (Sandy), Patricia (Phil), and Jose Antonio (Tina) and four grandchildren: Naomi, Nathaniel, Atom and Kyrie.

Our family would like to thank the many doctors, RNs and HCAs for their compassion and care provided to him at RJH and VGH hospitals and at home through the Island Health Community Support Service.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 11:00 am.  Those unable to attend in person can attend virtually via the following Zoom link…

    游生安息,一路走好!

Prayers and fond memories are what we have to remember our dearly departed. My most heartfelt condolences.

I had the good fortune to meet Don Guillermo when I first arrived in Rivas, Nicaragua, in 1963! On the weekends, he played great tunes from his 2nd floor living quarters. We lived across the street from him, and my favorite was the “Moon River.” He is always such a optimistic person with very positive attitudes that I admire. It was good to meet with him again in Victoria when we drove up from California in 2006.

My sincere condolences to the Yow family, there are no words to convey my sadness. I don’t know Willie well even though he is my best friends father but the times that I have met and interacted with him, I know he is a generous, caring and smart man. He was always talkative and welcoming and he will be missed.
God bless and rest in peace.
