William was born on January  12, 1938, in Newton-le-Willows England, passed away after a brief illness on  October  31, 2021. Predeceased by his three brothers Ronald, Brian and Alan and survived by his two sisters Jean and Eileen and his niece Linda. Bill was a professional engineer having obtained his engineering degree from the University of Liverpool after completing his National Service. After graduation, he worked for engineering consultant, Balfour Beatty. He emigrated to Canada in the mid-1960’s to Halifax and shortly thereafter made it to Victoria where he worked on a variety of water resource engineering projects for the provincial government.

Throughout his life he was a quiet environmentalist, always doing the right thing to minimize his impact on the environment. He had a lifelong interest in the natural sciences. He stopped driving his car long before it was in vogue and was always walking to do his food shopping or to the library. He was a consummate reader, reading books on a wide range of diverse topics.

He was a charter member of a group of friends and work colleagues that regularly met on Hornby Island to fish, hike and discuss world affairs. The group celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019.

He was very quiet and somewhat reclusive but was always very thoughtful. He was one of the most unforgettable people that his friends and colleagues ever knew.

Rest in Peace: William, Billy, Bill, Willie, Toby
