It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jean Bullock on October 15, 2021 at the age of 92. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 68 years Stanley A. I. Bullock in 2017, and by her brother Frank Dent. She is survived by her daughter Linda Hudson (Jim); granddaughter Lisa Husdon (Michael), grandson James Hudson, and great-grandson Noah Husdon.
Jean was born to her parents John and Florence Dent (nee Davidson) in Lancaster, Lancashire, England on July 16, 1929. As a young woman, Jean studied at the Lancaster Junior Commercial School and excelled in her clerical courses, particularly shorthand. Jean immigrated to Canada with her husband and young daughter in 1957, settling in Winnipeg, where Stan had secured a job as a teacher. Jean initially worked in the hospital setting before spending the bulk of her career as a legal secretary at Great-West Life. Upon their retirement, Jean and Stan moved to North Saanich on Vancouver Island. Lisa and her family followed them many years later. Jean and Stan were thrilled they got to see their great-grandson Noah grow up through his childhood years; they were both so proud of him and loved spending time with him.
There simply aren’t enough words to describe what a wonderful person Jean was. She was sweet, loving, kind, thoughtful and compassionate, and just a really lovely lady. She always had a great big hug and a huge smile for her family when they came to visit. She was friendly and social, and loved meeting and talking to people. Jean also had a fantastic sense of humour. Even in her darkest days when her health was failing, she always had a little joke or funny saying, which brought a smile to the faces of those around her. Jean was strong and resilient, always forging ahead in times of difficulty. Jean never asked for anything, and was always so grateful for anything she received. Jean had exquisite taste and a real elegance about her. She was a beautiful seamstress and a talented knitter, and her family is so fortunate to have some of these items as keepsakes to remember her by. Jean was so very loved by her family, and she will be forever missed.
A special thank you to everyone at the Kiwanis Pavilion in Victoria, who cared for Jean in her final months. You are all such special people, and Jean’s family will be forever grateful for your loving care. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I was a Beacon Services healthcare worker who attended husband, Stanley before he passed. Every time I visited the home, Jean was like a beacon of light on a dull day. Her warmth, her humour, her kindness just shone through. It is a few years since I saw Jean, but I shall never forget her. The three of us reminisced about our Lancashire roots. God bless Jean, another lovely soul returned home.
