Stewart Boutilier I worked as Kay Sheret’s gardener and saw her every week for over 35 years. She enjoyed and was hugely invested in the natural beauty of her property on Sheret Lane, as was I; it has always been my favourite place to work.
Besides hundreds of geraniums, she always had me plant a large vegetable garden and loved to share its bountiful produce with her neighbours. She always kept me on and treated me fairly despite our occasional divergence of opinion and approach. That reliability helped me support and raise my family, for which I will always be grateful.
I’ll always remember her caring, long term friendship with housemate Miss Dixon (“Dixie”), and the devoted care she showed to her nephew when he was in hospital. She visited him every day despite being in her late 90s and in poor health herself. On my front porch sits a large rose geranium, grown from a cutting from Miss Sheret’s garden. Much like Miss Sheret herself, it’s resilient and long-living, still going strong after 20 years. I think of her every time I see it: tenacious, colourful, and ready to share the beauty of nature.

Marian McDowell Davies Growing up as child in the McDowell clan and visiting with Dear Cousin Kay will always be a memory I hold close. Each time I go to Victoria and find the tile embedded streetside I take a moment to remember Kay’s generosity at my wedding in 1969 and all those cheished visits to her home. My father, Bill McDowell, son of Donald C, was Kay’s favourite cousin. She was a strong, kind and independant soul I am forever proud and grateful to have known and related to! Peace be with her as she reunites with the clan in heaven.

Julie Anderson I was sad to hear of Kay’s passing today. She was quite a woman – strong and independent. Rest In Peace. When you see Mom give her a hug for me.

Jeannie Blaney Dear Aunty Kay, I will miss you so much. You were one my mentors and the toughest woman I know. Say hi to my Mom and Dad in Heaven. Go and walk with Dixie and your poodles and kiss Andre and Sherry for me. Love Jeannie

Susan Calder It’s with great sadness that I read of Kay’s passing today. Having said that, she lived good innings! She was a very gracious lady and I enjoyed her garden raspberries and most of all, her friendship as she attended my cooking classes over the years. May you rest in Peace, sweet lady.
Kay in the Neighbourhood
For 35 years we have been a neighbour of Kay’s – neighbours to her little ocean front cottage, which she proudly told us was built by her father.
In the earlier years we would see lots of Kay as she came & went. Checking on her apple trees and the evergreens lining her property.. We became good friends and always enjoyed our interactions.
Kay’s forthright manner gave a clear honest approach to every situation. She frequently ended her conversations with my husband instructing him “Behave Yourself” – always with a touch of mischief in her grin.
She was a remarkable person.. Susan and Jamie Henwood
