Barry was born August 11, 1939 in Peterborough, ON passed away February 17, 2021at 7:00 am at his home in Victoria with Edna at his side.
Barry was born to Dennis and Olwen Traynor (deceased). Barry resided 
in Peterborough until 1961 at which
time he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His career with the Force took him to 
Nova Scotia, H Division for 5 years; Saskatchewan F Division in Swift Current, SK and Saskatoon for 7 years, and the rest of his distinguished career at HQ, Ottawa till 1984 when he joined the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) until his retirement in 1993. Barry was the recipient of a Long Service Medal with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. In his career, Barry guarded Pope John Paul II and Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Barry lived his life with a profound sense of duty and respect for all.
Barry was a dedicated Dad to three sons: Darryl (Estelle), 
Michael (Nancy) and Andrew, all residing in Ottawa and daughter, Janelle (Kevin) of Washington, DC. Granddaughter, Emily Traynor of DC, Grandsons: Matthew, Rhys, Owen, Jakob and Will Traynor, all of Ottawa. Barry is survived by brother, Brent (Barb) of Newcastle, ON; sisters, Megan (Tom) Endicott and Gaye (Wayne) Campanaro of Peterborough, ON.
Barry, a true gentleman,a man of his word and was greatly admired for his character, integrity, humility, unwavering moral standards, and above all true love of his wife, Edna. It was during his service in Saskatoon where he met
Edna and they remained friends for over 30 years. It was in 2008 where his joy for life was renewed. Barry moved to Victoria, BC to take up a new life with Edna where they were married on Edna’s birthday August 12, 2011. They shared more faith, adventures, experiences, laughter and love than most people share in a lifetime. They truly enjoyed the best years of their lives cruising, dancing and travelling to
over 40 countries and spending winter months in AZ, CA .He is saddened
to leave behind, the love of his life, best friend and wife of 9 years. He was most grateful each and every day that he was blessed with love, support and faith.
Barry became a beloved stepfather to Mary Alice Webb (StevenHaws) Victoria, Gerard (Corinne) McCarthy, Kelowna and Anita McCarthy, Gold Coast, Australia as well as five step grandsons and
seven step great 
grandchildren. Barry never met a stranger. He could strike a conversation with anyone and share laughter. He never missed an opportunity to gather with colleagues/friends when returning to Ottawa for visits.
He spent his entire life being himself and anyone would be grateful to have a friend like him.
Barry was a Life Member of Orleans Kinsmen, RCMP Vets,
Victoria and Pillar Society of CSIS. He was awarded the “Neighbourhood Mayor” award in Orleans. He had a great love of hunting with his father at Traynors’ Camp, which dates back to his childhood and in later years, with his cousins.
Barry left this world with nothing unsaid and knowing that he lived an exciting life, full of adventure and love, a life truly blessed by the Grace of God. He often said we should be as lucky and as fortunate as he.
Barry wishes to thank family, co-workers and friends for the many meaningful tributes paid during his illness. 
One common thread in these tributes, his apparent love for Edna and the happiness she brought to his life. Our thanks to Dr. Franco and his cardiac team for giving Barry and I more time to enjoy. Thank you also to Dr. J. Aiken, all hospice and BC Cancer Agency nurses and doctors, Saanich Community Nurses and staff. Thank you.
He prays everyone will remember him as an honest, fun loving man. Until we meet again, may God bless you and hold you in

Cremation has taken place. His final resting place will be Beechwood National Memorial Centre, Ottawa
and shared with Edna at Royal Oak Columbarium. Barry’s Celebration of Life will be post COVID, details will be announced: Sacred Heart Church, 4040 Nelthorpe St., Victoria and at Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood, Ave., Ottawa, ON.

It is with very fond memories of his smile and the twinkle in his eyes that I wish to express my sincere condolences. I trust that your many friends and family will bring comfort at this time.Barry and I worked together in the new intelligence service. I later worked with Janelle who may remember me from my days in the building on Blair and Olivier. Strange as it may seem, I also had an occasion very recently to meet one of Barry’s sons, now a sergeant in the RCMP. We met at Community Pentecostal at a funeral for a relative.
