It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Verne on December 30, 2020.Verne was born in Victoria, BC in 1932 where he grew up with his brother, Neil. Verne became a member of the RCMP and it was during his first posting to Maple Creek, Saskatchewan that he met his wife, Lynn. He worked with the RCMP in various cities across Canada until taking an early retirement in 1978 and moving back to Victoria with his family.
Verne then continued on in his career, working with the Attorney General’s department until his retirement. Verne enjoyed living in Victoria and had a very happy life, full of love for his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and active in the fellowship at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Sidney. Verne leaves behind his loving wife, Lynn, daughter Trish, son-in-law Ken and cherished granddaughter Katelynn. He was a generous, kind and loving man and he will be greatly missed.
We would like to thank all of the staff on the Saanich Peninsula South Unit for all of their wonderful care and kindness given to Verne.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Sue and Carl Stovel Dear Lynn, Trish, Ken and Katelynn,
Sue and I have been so lucky to have been very close friends with Lynn and Verne for almost forty years. In fact, as an integral part of our extended family, we shared countless birthdays, anniversaries, Thanksgivings, Easters and Christmases. They were much loved surrogate grandparents to our three grandchildren and we shared many fun times travelling in BC and to Sunriver, Oregon. Verne and I competed for the highest score on golf courses and as couples we enjoyed monthly dinner and bridge games all those years.
Lynn and Verne were two of the nicest, kindest people we knew. Sue and I have cherished our special friendship and will continue to get together with Lynn and reminisce about our wonderful shared memories.
Verne was a good man and a gentleman who was kind, gracious, forgiving, supportive, loyal and always generous of spirit. We are so fortunate to have had all the good times over the years. Thank you for sharing Verne with us, Lynn.
We are thinking of you all at this sad time.
With love, Sue and Carl

David Chmiel Dear Lynn, Trish, Ken and Katelynn,
I was so very sorry to see the news of the recent passing your beloved husband, dad and grandfather and wanted to send my deepest condolences to you. I know how hard this loss will be for all of you and that the gap left by the absence of someone so treasured is immeasurable.
Verne was always so welcoming when I would stop by on periodic visits to Victoria over Christmas and always deeply interested in what was going on in the UK. It was patently obvious how happy he was in the company of his family and how hugely proud he was of Trish. Speaking as one only child to another, I know how tremendously hard this loss will be. My fervent hope is that, in time, the pain of loss recedes for all of you and that the comfort of so many happier times and of a life well-lived and well-loved sustains you.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon him. May he rest in the peace of Christ.
Sending you all my deepest condolences from “across the pond.”
With fondest good wishes,
David Chmiel
Lynn and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Verne was my boss over 50 years ago in Winnipeg and I was fortunate to meet up wth him again when I was posted to BC many years later. He was a kind and caring boss and an even better person
