Alan passed away in his home on December 30, 2020, after a long battle with cancer and a respiratory ailment. He was predeceased by his father, Cecil James Ash and his mother, Edith Margaret (Di Castri) Ash. He is survived by the love of his life Dorothy, his wife of 43 years, and his children, Charlotte, Bradley (Cheryl), Tanya (Ian) and James (Sheena). Alan was a proud grandfather to Justin, Gavin, Shayla, Matthew, Marissa, Maximus and Alexia plus one great-grandchild Graecia.
Born in Victoria on June 22, 1951, Alan grew up with a deep love of the internal combustion engine, which led him to his early obsession with muscle cars and to pursue a career as a Marine Engineer. He started out on the tugboats, drove 18-wheelers, worked on the weather ships and for the Coast Guard before finishing his career with 20+ years at Victoria Shipyards (Seaspan).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation (http://www.bccancer.bc.ca/RS/VancouverIslandCentre/donating.htm).

Br. A. A. Cannon, CFC It was my pleasure to have Alan Ash as a student in my Gr. 5 and Gr. 6 class at St. Louis College in 1962 and 1963. He was a pleasure to teach, always polite and courteous. I was invited to his home by his lovely mother and we would have tea together and talk about Alan’s school work and his future. I was fortunate to know Alan and his family. God bless him.

Doug (Becky) Sebastiano We would like to offer Condolences to Alan’s family.
This comes as sad news to us as well.
I first got to know Alan while the two of us were working 12 hour shifts together preparing, then off loading heavy fuel from a fish boat.
Since then we worked on various projects at Victoria Shipyards.
It was a pleasure to know and work with Alan on a personal level as well as I admired his skills in problem solving and innovation.
I first met and worked with Chicco in 1992 @ Point Hope Shipyards, I was 25 years old. I’ve strived my whole life to be like ‘Chico’; Honest, Real, Friendly and take pride in my job. You where the ‘best’ Rest in Peace.
