Grace was born in Greenbush, Ontario, the youngest of three siblings. As a young child, she moved to Barrie, ON where she was active in the Salvation Army Corps (church) as a Girl Guide, Sunday School teacher, and songster.

As a teenager, Grace was called to ministry in the Salvation Army and entered the Salvation Army Training College in 1959 as part of the Greathearts Session. It was here that she met the love of her life, Robert. They were married in 1962 and served together as Salvation Army officers (pastors) across Canada and Bermuda until their retirement to Victoria, BC in 2000.

Family was very important to Grace. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She was known for her hospitality, sense of humour, Sunday roast beef dinners, and her cards – she never missed a birthday or special occasion. She loved to tease and often had a twinkle in her eye and a mischievous smile on her face.

Grace faced many health challenges in recent years, but she remained as independent as possible with the help of her loving husband, Robert. She grieved the loss of her mother, Pearle (1991), and brother Clive (2010). She is survived by her husband Robert; her children Heather, Rhonda, and Linda; sister Dorothy (Dot) Stainton; her beloved grandchildren Ashley, Nathanael (Sarah), Christopher, Caleb (Esther), Rachel (Lucas), and Adam; great-grandson (Hayden) and her great-granddaughter expected in February; and many nieces and nephews.

Grace was Promoted to Glory on November 21, after an unexpected illness. She will be missed by many, but we rejoice that Grace is now safe in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

Due to COVID-19, a private family service was held on November 25, 2020. A video of the service may be viewed at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwZAey8kQMY&feature=youtu.be

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, Victoria Citadel, 4030 Douglas St., Victoria, BC V8X 5J6.
