It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Wife, Ruth Katzer.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Bob (Robert) in January 2015.

She is survived by her children, Russell, Lee-Ann (Don), Robert and her grandchildren, Corey (Maddie) and Michael.

She dearly loved them all and was extremely proud of them all.

Ruth was born in Victoria, BC and attended school at both Tillicum and Mt. View.

Ruth started her working life at Standard Furniture then stayed home to raise her family. Later she went to work at Yards & Yards fabric store until age 60 at which time she helped to take care of her much-loved grandchildren.

Bob and Ruth spent many years together camping, gardening and enjoying their home. Their Faith was very strong and they were always involved with their church, Trinity Presbyterian.

A small family memorial will be held with a celebration of life to follow at another time.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

To the Katzer family, I live on Vincent almost at the top of Inez and I would be walking to Trinty and Bob and Ruth would pull up and offer me a lift because according to Bob it was to far to walk! They were both delightful people and I admired their tenacity even when they fell and had bruises and stitches at times they still came to church. Ruth was missed terribly when she had to stop coming to church and they will be remembered with much fondness by the congregation. Val Cornforth

Russell, I saw your Mom’s obituary in the paper today, and I want to offer my condolences to you and your family. It’s so hard to lose someone, and it sounds like your Mom was such an important part of you family and your life. I hope that you are able to enjoy lots of lovely memories of her, and please know that I am thinking about you at this difficult time. I so enjoyed working with you, and I think of you often, Rusty. Sending you many hugs and all my best wishes.

Dear Russell, Lee-Ann, and Rob, we are so sad to see that your Mum has died. She and Bob were always so kind and very generous to both me and my husband, Lary Hansen. In fact Bob found Lary his first townhouse in Victoria, one Easter weekend, and I worked with Bob at Pemberton, Holmes Ltd. Your parents always welcomed us so generously and warmly into their loving home. We miss them both a lot, though we have slowly lost our Victoria connections now that we’ve been in Nanaimo for 20 years. Hugs and tons of condolences, both of them had fabulous lives and you must be so proud of them both.

  • Bill & Loretta Macdonald

    Dear Russell, Lee-Ann, and Rob,

We were saddened to learn of your mother’s passing. Although Bill had worked with your Dad, Loretta first met both your parents at Christmas, 1972. Your parents welcomed us into their home then with smiles, warmth, and good cheer. We were greeted in the same way every time we visited over the years. No matter where we were, we looked forward to your Mom’s Christmas cards, filling us in on all the family happenings. She was a thoughtful, positive, cheerful and practical person; extremely proud and protective of her family and grandchildren. May she rest in peace with your Dad, and may you find strength, comfort and peace at this time. We will keep you in our thoughts and remember all of you in our prayers.

    Sincerely,
    Bill and Loretta
