Elena Buicliu (nee Hedesiu) died peacefully on January 10, 2020 at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital long-term care unit. She was born on June 4, 1927 in Luna, Romania.
Elena was predeceased by her husband Jean in 1990. She is survived by her children George (Georgia) and Ion (Lois); grandchildren Mihai, Simina (Geoff) and Sidonie (Semion); great-grandchildren Logan and Dylan. She will be missed by many other relatives and friends.
Elena and Jean were married on March 12, 1947 in Bucharest, Romania. She became a stay-at-home mom. When the children started university, Elena took a job working from home. In the following years, she enjoyed looking after her first two grandchildren.
After Jean’s passing, Elena joined her sons in Canada in 1994. She lived in Edmonton and then in Victoria. She took pleasure in looking after her third grandchild and visiting with her great-grandchildren from Michigan.
The family wish to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for Elena over the last months at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital.
A Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at St. Paul’s United Church, 2410 Malaview Avenue, Sidney, BC.
