Betty Prior died peacefully in Victoria at the age of 96, surrounded by her loving family.

She leaves behind her son, Edward Prior; daughter, Teresa Prior (known as Terry to family); daughter-in-law, Jill; grandchildren, Robert and Katie; cousin, Karen (Harold) Smith.  Predeceased by Charlie, husband of 62 years, and sister Mary Hodgson.

Born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Betty grew up on a farm and attended a one-room school. Her family moved to Vancouver when she was 12, where she attended Kitsilano High.

During World War 2, she worked in the Admiral’s office in Vancouver (Navy headquarters during the war) and met a young sailor, her beloved Charlie. After the war, Betty followed her job with the Navy to Victoria. Charlie said she chased him but she always said he didn’t run very fast!

Betty and Charlie loved living and walking on Dallas Road for 50 years. They were avid gardeners and travellers, enjoying several trips to Europe.  Betty survived a major stroke in 1999 and was grateful to the Victoria Stroke Recovery Association for their continued support.

Betty adored her family and treasured the many friends she’d made throughout her life. Betty was kind and had a quick mind, a positive attitude and a marvellous sense of humour.  She loved learning and attended many concerts, lectures, painting and exercise classes in the community and at Shannon Oaks.

Betty wanted to thank Dr. Michael Miles and MOA Debbie and her many friends at Shannon Oaks.

No service at Betty’s request.
