It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Desmond Oswell on October 4th, 2018. Des is predeceased by his wife, (Chum) Greta and his son, John. He is survived by his daughters, Margaret and Jean; brother, Michael; his grandchildren and the extended family.
Des was born in Kelowna, British Columbia in 1927 and together with his growing family, settled in Victoria, British Columbia in 1965.
His achievements during his lifetime ranged from his career with Sun Life of Canada to his contributions to Boy Scouts of Canada. Des was an active member in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Victoria for over fifty years, acting as the Sunday School Superintendent and also serving as a senior elder for over twenty-five years.
Des was a very proud man who believed that his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was a man of great strength and determination with a will to face all of life’s challenges. His personality was big, his heart even bigger. Every achievement throughout his life was for his family.
Sincere thanks to Dr. Ben How and the staff in Oak Bay Lodge where Des spent the last few years of his life.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 at 1:00 pm.

Denise Brittain When I moved to Victoria in 1981 after graduating from high school, Mr. Oswell was my first boss at Sun Life of Canada. He was a very kind, patient man and understood that I was just new and having to learn the insurance business. It was a pleasure working with him for the time I was employed at Sun Life of Canada. I wish to express my condolences to all his family.
