Rita Mary Anderson (née Brkich) was raised on a farm with her 8 siblings near Bladworth, Saskatchewan.  She later became a nurse and completed her master’s degree in nursing at McGill.  She met and married her husband in Toronto and moved to Germany, where they lived for 3 years.  Upon returning to Canada, they spent some time in Halifax, where their daughter was born.  The family moved to Victoria in 1980 and that is where she spent the rest of her years, although she was always a prairie girl at heart.  She was an active member of the Catholic Church throughout her life.

She will be dearly missed by her husband Terry, daughter Stephanie, son-in-law Patrick, granddaughter Thea, and her 3 surviving sisters Beth, Theresa, and Vera.

I came to Victoria many times during my career and I always had Rita there to meet me for an evening of fun and conversation. Today as I arrived – I cannot fight back the tears as I am here on this sad occasion for all of us. I will miss her and I cannot begin to think or say how sorry I am for Terry, Stephanie and Patrick and little Thea.
    God Bless
    Cousin Lynne and family

It was always a pleasure to be in Mrs. Anderson’s (Rita’s) company. She always was interested in what you have been up to and eager to learn of others’ experiences. We were truly stunned to hear of her sudden passing – as she was so active and full of life. Her smiles were genuine and her wisdom was passed on by example. She was a wonderful, classy, elegant woman – and a superb hostess. We can only imagine the sadness and loss that her husband and daughter and son-in-law are going through (and, of course, other family members and friends). Hers seems to have been a life very well-lived – and that means a life very well-loved.

Mrs. Anderson was the kindness dearest mother ever. I will remember for her delicate manner, her funny laugh when telling a story and her love for Patsy Cline. Thank you for all you have shown me over the years, Long Beach and Parskville trips with you will be everlasting delightful memories that I will forever cherish.
